This Vajrasattva statue was made in Nepal by Saroj Shakya using the lost-wax method. Cast in copper and fully gilded in 24k gold with an antique finish, the gilding has a warm, settled tone, and the engraved borders of the robe show clear, precise workmanship. The face is painted in gold with fine, steady lines that define the features.

“Lama Vajrasattva … holds a vajra—an emblem of the qualities of absolute nature—in his right hand. In his left hand, which rests on his thigh, he holds a bell, symbol of transcendent knowledge. His legs are in vajra posture.

[He is] adorned with the five silken garments of the sambhogakaya deities: a scarf skimming the shoulders and encircling the arms, a headdress made of five-colored pendants, a bolero, a belt, and pantaloons. [He is] also ornamented with the eight jewels of the peaceful sambhogakaya deities: a crown; earrings; short, midlength, and long necklaces; bracelets, armlets, and anklets.

[His form] expresses the nine signs of wisdom bodies: pliancy; well-toned musculature; delicacy; youthfulness; clearness; radiance; attractiveness; and the splendor and blessing of having vanquished all obscurations and obstacles.”
