Sarasvati, meaning "flowing water," is the goddess of learning, music, and speech—venerated in both Hinduism and Buddhism. In Buddhist tradition, she is a consort of Manjushri, and in Hinduism, of Brahma or Vishnu. Her form represents wisdom flowing through the subtle body’s central channel. She is shown seated on a lotus above turbulent waters, riding a white swan, playing a vina, and holding a mala and the Prajnaparamita Sutra.
This thangka is framed in traditional Tibetan silk brocade and includes a curtain to keep it protected when not displayed.
