Maitreya Buddha, known as the Buddha of Loving-Kindness and the Future Buddha, is often depicted seated majestically on a throne, symbolizing his readiness to descend to the world when the time is ripe to bring universal compassion and wisdom. His throne represents his future role as a great spiritual teacher who will guide humanity towards enlightenment. In Tibetan Buddhist art, Maitreya is sometimes shown with his legs down, in a pose that signifies his imminent arrival to fulfill his promise of liberation for all beings.
